By 11am in a Dubai June, the inside of a parked moving truck hits 58°C. By 2pm it's 65°C. By 4pm, if the truck is dark-coloured and sun-exposed, it's approaching 72°C. Your packing tape fails at 42°C. Your bubble wrap off-gasses at 50°C. This is the problem nobody explains until your TV box has collapsed into a sticky heap at the destination.
Here's the six-item kit we've refined over 400+ summer moves. It's not expensive. It's just specific — and Dubai retailers mostly don't carry the right items on one shelf.
The Problem Nobody Explains
Standard packing materials are designed for European or American climates, where a hot day is 32°C. Dubai's outdoor truck temperatures between April and September sit 15-25°C above those design assumptions. Specifically:
- Generic packing tape uses acrylic adhesive that softens above 42°C and loses grip entirely above 55°C. Your boxes pop open during transit.
- Bubble wrap off-gasses volatile organic compounds (VOCs) above 50°C — that chemical smell in your hot-packed items is plastic breaking down.
- Standard shrink wrap shrinks further in heat, crushing edges and corners of furniture it was meant to protect.
- Cardboard boxes absorb humidity during a hot transit and lose up to 30% of their compressive strength.
- Moving blankets without vapour barriers trap condensation against leather, wood, and electronics.
This is why summer moves produce more damage claims than winter ones — and why the damage often shows up hours or days after delivery.
The Six-Item Heat-Pack Kit
1. Gorilla Heavy-Duty Packing Tape (or 3M Scotch Extreme)
The adhesive stays viable up to 66°C and stretches instead of cracking. Available at Ace Hardware and Amazon.ae. Cost: AED 28-38 per roll versus AED 8-12 for generic. Use on every box seam, every bubble-wrap bundle, every reinforced edge.
2. Tyvek Furniture Wrap (not bubble wrap)
DuPont Tyvek is a spun-olefin material that doesn't off-gas, doesn't trap condensation, and reflects sun heat. Sold as 'housewrap' in Al Quoz building supply stores. A 3m x 10m roll runs AED 180-240 and wraps a full villa's worth of furniture. For electronics specifically, Tyvek is non-negotiable.
3. Silica Gel Packets (Bulk)
Desert Chemicals in Al Quoz (Industrial Area 2) sells 10g silica packets at AED 0.30 each in 100-packet bags. Drop 3-5 packets into every box containing fabric, paper, or electronics. Not optional for summer moves — without them, mould appears on leather and paper within 48 hours of sealed-box transit.
4. Insulated Delivery Boxes (for Electronics)
Specialist moving suppliers — PacTec carries these — stock foam-lined insulated cartons at AED 45-75 per box. Cheaper alternative: line a standard double-wall box with 20mm EPS foam boards (AED 18 per sheet from Ace Hardware). Use these for TVs, laptops, gaming consoles, anything with a lithium battery.
5. Moisture-Barrier Bags for Soft Goods
Vacuum-seal bags with one-way valves pull air out of mattresses, pillows, duvets, and bulk clothing. Prevents heat-induced moisture from expanding fabric and creating mildew. IKEA sells a multi-pack for AED 35-45. Use these for any textile that will spend more than 4 hours in a truck.
6. White or Reflective Moving Blankets
Dark blue moving blankets (the default for most movers) absorb sun heat — a blanket-wrapped chair behind a rear truck window can hit 70°C. White canvas or reflective Mylar blankets reduce absorbed heat by 20-35%. Cost: AED 85-120 per blanket versus AED 35-50 for standard. A 2-bed move needs 8-12 blankets — a worthwhile AED 400-840 upgrade for April-September moves.
The Route Rules — Beyond Materials
Materials alone don't solve it. Summer moving discipline requires:
- Pre-dawn starts. Our summer crews arrive at 5:00-5:30am to finish loading before the truck interior passes 50°C. Afternoon moves during May-September routinely hit 65°C+ inside the truck.
- No midday stops. If the truck has to stop (lunch, refuelling), it stops in shade or enclosed parking. A 20-minute stop in direct sun adds 10-15°C to the interior.
- Shortest possible transit. Direct loading at origin, direct drive, direct unloading. No warehouse layovers during peak hours.
- Electronics transported in air-conditioned cab when possible. Our drivers take laptops, cameras, and hard drives in the front cabin.
What a Full Heat-Pack Kit Costs for a 2-Bed Move
| Item | Qty | Cost |
|---|---|---|
| Gorilla packing tape | 6 rolls | AED 180-210 |
| Tyvek wrap (3m x 10m) | 1 roll | AED 200-240 |
| Silica gel packets (100) | 1 bag | AED 30-40 |
| Insulated electronics boxes | 4 boxes | AED 180-300 |
| Vacuum bags | 1 multi-pack | AED 35-45 |
| White moving blankets | 10 pieces | AED 850-1,200 |
| Total | AED 1,475 - 2,035 |
Compare that to the average damage claim on a summer move (AED 2,800-4,500 in our experience) and the math is obvious.
Why SAMA Includes All of This by Default
Our summer packing protocol — April through September — automatically includes heat-rated tape, Tyvek wrap on all exposed furniture, silica gel in every sealed box, and reflective blankets. It's part of our packing services, not an upsell. The reason: it's cheaper for us to prevent damage than to process claims, so heat-grade materials are standard.
For related summer-move context, our summer Dubai heat moving guide covers timing and crew logistics. The pre-summer April-May window article explains why the next 4-6 weeks are the sweet spot before conditions become extreme. And our electronics packing guide goes deeper on hardware specifics.

Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use regular packing tape for a summer move in Dubai?
Regular acrylic-adhesive tape fails above 42°C — which is routine inside a Dubai moving truck from April to September. Boxes pop open in transit, contents shift, damage follows. Upgrade to Gorilla heavy-duty or 3M Scotch Extreme (rated to 66°C) for any summer move. The AED 20 per roll premium prevents far more expensive damage.
Is bubble wrap safe for Dubai summer moves?
Standard bubble wrap off-gasses VOCs above 50°C — which is normal inside summer trucks. For electronics, leather, and sensitive surfaces, Tyvek wrap (DuPont spun-olefin) is safer. Bubble wrap is fine for lightweight non-sensitive items in shorter transits.
Why do I need silica gel for a Dubai move?
Sealed boxes in hot, humid conditions develop internal condensation within hours. Silica gel (AED 0.30 per packet at Desert Chemicals in Al Quoz) absorbs moisture before it damages fabric, leather, paper, and electronics. Drop 3-5 packets per box. Without them, mould and water rings appear within 48 hours of sealed transit.
Does SAMA provide heat-rated packing materials automatically?
Yes — from April through September, our packing service defaults to heat-grade tape, Tyvek wrap on furniture, silica gel in sealed boxes, reflective moving blankets, and pre-dawn loading windows. No upcharge. It's cheaper for us to prevent damage than process claims, so heat-rated materials are standard on every summer move.
