The freight lift at Glitz 2 fits a queen mattress upright with about 4 cm of clearance on either side. We measured. If you've bought a king-size, you're disassembling it in the corridor.
Studio City is one of those Dubai pockets that rents well below Marina or JLT but has its own rulebook. The towers cluster around Sheikh Mohammed Bin Zayed Road (E311), with a single feeder road into the residential blocks. Every move-in here runs through that bottleneck. We've done over 60 moves into the area in the last 18 months — these are the things our crews wish every client knew before booking.
Where Studio City Actually Begins and Ends
The community sits between Motor City to the north and Sports City to the south, with Dubai Production City (formerly IMPZ) wedged in. People conflate the three. They share roads but not buildings. If your contract says "Production City" but the address is Glitz Residence, that's a Studio City building — the leasing agents use the names interchangeably and it causes truck-routing problems.
The key residential clusters are DAMAC Glitz 1, 2 and 3, Eden Apartments, Glamz by DANUBE, Reva Residences, and a handful of smaller standalone blocks. Each has its own lift policy. None of them coordinate.
Lift and Loading Bay Reality
Glitz 1, 2, and 3 each have one service lift. One. For a tower with 350+ units. On move-in days during peak season (September and post-Ramadan), buildings stack three families per lift slot and your crew waits. We schedule Glitz moves at 7am or 5pm — the residents' commuter rush keeps the lift quiet.
Eden Apartments has a slightly larger freight lift (2.1m × 1.4m internal, 1,600kg capacity) but a meaner security desk. They want the moving company's trade licence emailed 48 hours ahead, the truck plate, the names of every crew member, and a refundable AED 500 deposit against lift damage. The deposit comes back the same day if nothing's scuffed.
Glamz, being a DANUBE building, follows DANUBE's standard policy: NOC from the developer, copy of the new tenant's Ejari, and a one-page move plan stating arrival and departure times. Practical translation: book us 5 working days out so we can chase the paperwork.
Parking the Truck
This is where Studio City gets people. The community was master-planned with thin internal roads — 4.5 metres in places — and the loading bays were sized for delivery vans, not 3-tonne moving trucks. At Glitz 3, we usually park on the right shoulder of the access road and shuttle a smaller pickup to the bay. That adds 25-35 minutes to the move.
Reva Residences is the exception. Reva sits on a corner lot with a proper drop-off bay that handles a 4-tonne truck cleanly. Moves there run about 90 minutes faster than Glitz moves of equivalent size.
Real Costs From This Year
These are our 2-bedroom move averages from the last six months, all within Dubai:
- Glitz 1/2/3 → Marina or JLT: AED 1,950-2,400 (the lift wait is the variable)
- Eden Apartments → Mirdif/Al Warqa: AED 2,200-2,750
- Glamz → Business Bay: AED 1,800-2,200
- Reva Residences → DAMAC Hills: AED 1,650-1,950
- Studio City → Sharjah (Al Majaz): AED 2,400-3,100
Studio apartments shave roughly AED 400-600 off these numbers. 1-bedrooms sit AED 200-300 lower than the 2-bed figures. Add AED 350-500 for full packing service, AED 250-400 for fragile/electronics-only packing.
Get a fixed quote rather than an hourly rate for moves in this area. The lift wait can blow an hourly clock and you don't want to argue about who pays for security taking 40 minutes to find the master keycard.
The Production District Connection
If you're moving to or from a Production City building (Centrium Towers, IMPZ Lakeside) and your address paperwork says "Studio City," check the cluster letter. The cluster matters more than the community name for routing. We had a job last March where the customer's rental contract listed Studio City but the keys were collected from a Centrium tower 800m away. The truck went to the wrong gate. Forty-five minutes lost.
Schools, Traffic, Timing
Studio City sits beside GEMS Metropole, Victory Heights Primary, and Renaissance School. School run traffic on the access road peaks 7:00-7:45am and 1:30-3:15pm. Avoid both windows. The community road backs up onto the E311 service lane and the truck cannot turn around once committed.
For weekday moves, our standard slots here are 9:00am-1:00pm or 3:30pm-7:30pm. Weekend (Saturday) moves run all day but cost about 15% more because building security charges the moving company a weekend premium.
Who Moves Here, and Why It Matters
The tenant mix is heavily young professionals, IT contractors, and small families on production-side jobs (TwoFour54 outpost, Dubai Studio City freelancers). Most leases are 1-year, single-cheque. Turnover is high — we see the same buildings on our manifest every quarter. That gives us muscle memory for the lift schedules, which gates security uses, which guard knows what.
If you're moving FROM Studio City to a villa in Arabian Ranches or Dubai Hills, expect a full-day move. Apartment-to-villa upgrades typically gain 1.5x the boxing volume because you're filling more rooms.
What Buildings Won't Tell You About NOCs
DAMAC properties (the Glitz family) issue move-out NOCs in 24-48 hours if your DEWA, district cooling (Empower in Studio City), and service charge accounts are clear. If anything's outstanding, the NOC sits. We've seen NOCs delayed for an unpaid AED 38 housing fee charge from two years ago. Settle every account ahead of submission.
For move-in NOCs, the new building wants the previous building's NOC plus your fresh Ejari. Our NOC walkthrough covers the document chain in detail.
Service-Level Stuff to Plan
For an apartment move within Dubai we usually send a 4-person crew with packing materials. Studio City's lift constraints make a 5-person crew counterproductive — they'd be standing around. For larger 3-bed units we add a second truck rather than a fifth mover.
If you've got specialty items (a wall-mounted TV over 65 inches, a treadmill, a piano), flag them at booking. The Glitz lifts will not take a treadmill assembled. Disassembly adds 30-45 minutes and AED 150-250 depending on the unit.

Frequently Asked Questions
How long does a 2-bed move take in Studio City?
A standard 2-bedroom move in Studio City runs 5-7 hours door-to-door, including lift waits. Glitz buildings usually push to the upper end because of the single freight lift; Reva and Glamz are quicker. We add 60-90 minutes if you're moving to another high-rise rather than a villa, since you're then queuing for two lifts in one day.
Can the moving truck park inside Studio City?
For most buildings, no — the internal roads are too tight for a 3-tonne truck. We park on the access road shoulder and shuttle items via the building's own loading bay using a pickup or hand trolley. Reva Residences is the only block with a truck-friendly drop-off. Always coordinate with security before arrival to avoid a fine from the community patrol.
Do Studio City buildings allow weekend moves?
Yes, but most charge the moving company a weekend security premium of AED 100-250 which gets passed through. Saturdays book solid 2-3 weeks ahead during peak season (September, January). If you can move on a Tuesday or Wednesday, you'll save money and have first pick of lift slots.
Is the move-out NOC fee included in service charges?
For DAMAC-managed Glitz buildings, the NOC itself is free if your accounts are clear. Eden Apartments charges AED 250-500 for the NOC plus a refundable lift damage deposit. Glamz and Reva fall in between. Always ask the building admin for a written breakdown — verbal quotes drift.
