Eleven days. That's the gap between today and the first day of the Eid Al Adha break, when most Marina crews go quiet for the better part of a week. After Eid wraps on the 29th, June arrives with surface temperatures of 42°C, the service-lift booking queue at Marina Promenade and Marina Pinnacle stretches three weeks out, and any move scheduled into July adds roughly AED 600-900 to the bill in heat-related logistics.
Marina is the most concentrated expat tower stack in Dubai. Thousands of leases either ended on the 31st of May or are about to be sub-let for summer. The window to move out cleanly — without paying the heat premium, without losing a week to Eid, without fighting for a lift slot — is closing now. Here's how to use the next eleven days well.
The narrowing booking window
For the next two weeks, Marina movers, building permits and service lifts all collide on the same calendar:
- May 14-18: Solid availability across mid-tier movers. Lift slots in most towers available 24-48 hours out. Best window if you can pack fast.
- May 19-24: Pre-Eid rush. Bookings tighten. By the 22nd, expect the next available Saturday lift slot in Marina Gate to be the 30th or later.
- May 25-29: Eid Al Adha. Most crews are off or running half-strength. Building management offices close partially. Avoid if at all possible.
- May 30 – June 5: Post-Eid catch-up. Whoever didn't move before Eid is moving now. Premium prices, lift queues, longer waits.
- June 6 onwards: Real summer. Heat begins to bite during physical loading. Prices stable but heat surcharge appears.
The two real choices: lock-up or full move-out
People in Marina face two distinct decisions for summer. They're handled very differently.
Choice A — Lock up and leave (most common). The tenant goes home for 8-12 weeks, the apartment stays leased, and they want minimal monthly cost while away. This is not a moving job. It's a vacant-apartment setup: AC on 26°C minimum, fridge on (or fully emptied and propped open), one trusted person with the spare key, mail forwarded or held.
Choice B — Full move-out. The lease is ending, the tenant is shifting to a smaller place for the next contract, or relocating out of Dubai entirely. This needs proper booking, DEWA disconnect, building permit, deposit refunds, the lot. If this is you, the window above applies and you should be talking to a mover this week, not next.
Mixed scenario: the tenant moves heavy/seasonal items into storage for the summer, keeps the apartment minimally furnished, and returns in September to either re-enter or formally hand back. This is a common Marina pattern. It's a half-move plus a storage commitment — typically AED 250-500 per month for a 50-100 cu ft unit.
Lift booking pressure by Marina building
Some towers handle peak season better than others. Based on the bookings we've fielded over the past three Mays:
| Building | Service lifts | Peak lead time |
|---|---|---|
| Marina Gate 1-3 | 3 per tower | 4-7 days |
| Cayan Tower | 2 | 7-10 days |
| Marina Promenade (6 towers) | 1-2 per building | 10-14 days |
| Princess Tower | 2 | 5-7 days |
| Address Marina / 23 Marina | 2 | 7-10 days |
| Marina Pinnacle | 1 | 10-14 days |
| Park Island (4 towers) | 1-2 per tower | 5-8 days |
If your tower has one service lift and you're hoping for a Saturday slot in the last two weeks of May, you're probably already late. The next clean window is the second week of June, after the post-Eid catch-up clears.
The heat math — why July adds AED 600-900
July moves cost more for the same flat. The extras stack up:
- Extra crew rest breaks: UAE labour law mandates midday breaks in summer (12:30-15:00). A move that would take 4 hours in May takes 6 in July with the break. Crew cost is hourly above the base.
- Ice, electrolyte drinks, cooling vests: Honest movers budget AED 150-250 per day for crew hydration in July.
- Packing material degradation: Standard packing tape adhesive softens above 38°C ambient. Cartons need to be re-taped on arrival. Bubble wrap behaves differently. Specialty heat-stable tape adds AED 50-100 per move.
- Electronics caution: TVs, hi-fi, computers shouldn't sit in a non-air-conditioned truck at 50°C. Either the truck has an AC cabin or those items move in the supervisor's car. That logistics overhead adds AED 200-300.
- More crew, shorter shifts: To hit your 2-hour lift slot in July heat, you need an extra lifter to compensate for the rest breaks. That's one more body at AED 200-300 per move.
Add it up: AED 600-900 extra on a 2-bed move done in July versus the same move done in May. We don't price that as a surcharge, we just quote July moves higher because the cost base is genuinely higher.
DEWA — disconnect or keep on?
Common question for the lock-up summer crowd. If the lease is continuing, you cannot disconnect DEWA — the housing fee continues regardless, and the AC needs to run at 26°C minimum to prevent mould in the walls. Vacant-apartment DEWA bills typically run AED 250-450 per month in summer at lock-up settings. Cheaper than mould remediation, which runs into the thousands.
If you're moving out entirely, the DEWA final bill arrives 24-36 hours after disconnect and the deposit refund follows 3-5 working days after that — full details in our DEWA final bill timing post. For the lock-up scenario, see our reactivation guide for what to do when you come back.
Storage during summer departure — the practical choice
Marina residents who store during summer typically need 50-200 cubic feet — enough for the contents of one bedroom, a few boxes of clothes, a kayak or two, the season's winter coats they won't wear July through September. Climate-controlled storage at AED 250-500 per month for that volume is the going rate among the larger Dubai operators.
The move-and-store-and-return cycle: load into the truck at Marina, drive to a Dubai Investment Park or Al Quoz storage facility, unload into the unit (with an inventory sheet you sign for), pay for 3 months upfront, come back end of August or September and reverse the run. Roughly AED 900-1,400 for the move-in, AED 750-1,500 for three months storage, AED 700-1,100 for move-out — call it AED 2,400-4,000 all-in for the full cycle.
Cheaper than breaking the lease and re-renting in September. Far cheaper than discovering the lease in September was AED 8,000 more than the same flat last year.
What to do in the next 11 days
- Today: Decide whether you're locking up or moving out. That decision shapes everything.
- By Saturday May 16: If moving out, request quotes from 3-4 movers. Filter using the questions in our Marina shortlist post.
- By Monday May 18: Book your service lift slot with building management. Marina buildings need 24-72 hours lead time at this point in May.
- By Wednesday May 20: Submit the DEWA move-out form for your target date.
- By Sunday May 24: Move done, deposit submitted for refund, paperwork closed before Eid begins on the 25th.
SAMA's apartment moving service covers Marina specifically — we work the towers regularly and our quote includes the building permit liaison. If you also need storage during summer, we have it. A free quote takes about 90 seconds and locks in your slot.
Frequently Asked Questions
When is the best time to move out of Dubai Marina before summer?
The cleanest window is before May 24, ahead of the Eid Al Adha break (May 25-29). After Eid, the late-June peak hits with longer lift queues and post-holiday catch-up bookings. Moves done in May avoid the heat premium of AED 600-900 that lands on equivalent moves done in July.
Can I leave my Marina apartment for summer without disconnecting DEWA?
Yes — and you should keep it on. The AC needs to run at 26°C minimum to prevent mould in the walls during a vacant summer. Expect vacant-apartment DEWA bills of AED 250-450 per month at lock-up settings, which is materially cheaper than mould remediation if you'd disconnect. The housing fee continues regardless because the lease is still active.
How much does Marina storage cost for the summer?
Climate-controlled storage runs AED 250-500 per month for 50-100 cubic feet — about one bedroom's worth of belongings. A full move-store-return cycle for the summer (move-in, three months storage, move-out in September) totals roughly AED 2,400-4,000, depending on volume and the facility used. Most Dubai operators are in Al Quoz, DIP and Ras Al Khor.
Are Marina movers available during Eid Al Adha?
Most run at half-strength during the public-sector Eid break (May 25-29). Building management offices in Marina towers are also closed or on skeleton staff, which slows permit issuance and lift booking. We'd recommend completing any Marina move by May 23-24, or waiting until the first week of June for a full-strength market.
