Your Complete Moving Checklist for Dubai
Moving in Dubai involves unique steps that differ from other cities. From obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) to booking building elevators, this comprehensive checklist ensures nothing falls through the cracks.
4 Weeks Before Your Move
- Obtain your NOC: Contact your landlord or building management to request a move-out NOC. Most buildings require all outstanding bills to be cleared first.
- Notify DEWA: Submit a disconnection request for your current address and a new connection request for your destination. DEWA typically requires 2-3 business days.
- Book your movers: Get quotes from at least two moving companies. Check for DED trade licences and read recent reviews. Book your preferred date early, especially during peak season.
- Start decluttering: Sort belongings room by room. Sell, donate, or discard items you no longer need. This reduces your moving volume and cost.
2 Weeks Before Your Move
- Book the elevator: Contact your building management at both current and new addresses to reserve the service elevator. Most buildings require 48 hours minimum notice.
- Notify services: Update your address with du/Etisalat, Emirates Post, banks, schools, and any subscription services.
- Start packing non-essentials: Pack seasonal items, books, decor, and rarely used items first.
- Confirm moving details: Verify the date, time, and scope with your moving company.
1 Week Before Your Move
- Pack room by room: Label every box with its contents and destination room. Use colour-coded tape for quick sorting.
- Prepare an essentials box: Pack a separate bag with documents, medications, chargers, toiletries, and a change of clothes for moving day.
- Take photos: Photograph electronics setups (cables, connections) before disconnecting. This makes reconnection much easier.
- Confirm elevator booking: Double-check with both buildings that your elevator slot is confirmed.
Moving Day
- Final walkthrough: Check every room, cupboard, and storage area before the movers start loading.
- Supervise loading: Confirm the inventory list with the crew leader. Note any items requiring special care.
- Meter readings: Take photos of DEWA meter readings at both addresses.
- Inspect at delivery: Check all items at your new home before signing off. Report any damage immediately.
After the Move
- Unpack essentials first: Kitchen, bathroom, and bedroom items should be unpacked on day one.
- Check all utilities: Test water, electricity, AC, and internet connections.
- Update Emirates ID address: Visit an ICP service centre to update your residential address within 30 days.
